TY GWYNFA

The brief of this speculative scheme aims to set a new precedent in Anglesey for high-quality visitor accommodation, providing a strong alternative to the aging 'static van' stock. We aim to integrate Passivhaus standards and sustainable technologies into the design. The project is comprised of 6-holiday units spread comfortably across a large site. A central access road flows ‘organically’ between the units and provides private parking and entrance. At the heart of the scheme lies an ecological SuDS pond and planting scheme, encouraging localized biodiversity as well as visually screening the units from each other The two-storey units feature a double-height living space, opening onto a central staircase and more compartmentalized utility spaces. On the first floor, a galleried landing leads to two bedrooms. Each unit is characterized externally through its Sedum roof, timber louvers, and natural cladding materials. Clad using reclaimed Welsh slate, locally sourced larch, and copper, we believe these units complement Anglesey’s outstanding scenery and emphasize its local heritage.

RECCE HQ

RECCE HQ is a training centre and office for the veteran charity, Project RECCE. The hub is a single-storey mono-pitched unit. Externally clad in cedar, it blends into the green surroundings and neighbouring developments. The design is functional and clearly zones the plan into private, public, and servant spaces. Flooded with light and providing views out to the site’s flora and landscapes beyond, this centre is a healthy and calming environment for both education and work. The centre’s rural setting is fully appreciated from the training room, which offers uninterrupted views across to the Manchester skyline and over to the Peak District.

THE FARMHOUSE

The Farmhouse is a large residential project situated within the Greater Manchester Greenbelt. This smart home integrates exceptional audio-visual technologies as well as sustainable systems including Photovoltaic Panels, Air Source Heat Pumps, and MVHR. Full-height slit windows punctuate its rear, generating a subtle elevation that suggests only a single-storey unit. This First floor accommodates three bedrooms and a master suite, all of which share access to a wrap-around balcony. At the heart of the unit is a triangular feature staircase. Cantilevered and positioned underneath a vaulted ceiling, this circulation is more than just a ‘servant’ space. The ground floor is dominated by a near 100 square meter entertainment space, accommodating the kitchen, bar, and dining. This room is constantly animated by the spectacular views over the city below. Spanning away, rooms become more modest, intimate, and warm. The front of this building rises from the landscape in which it sits, strong yet comfortable. Clad in both cedar and render, it shares a likeness to RECCE HQ and surrounding developments, forming a contemporary vernacular across the site.
